I hope you’re having a wonderful start to your Thursday morning!
Do you remember the book that really sparked your passion for reading?
I always read as a kid. I remember having a bookshelf full of those little kid books that I would read over and over, like Mouse and the Moon Made of Cheese.
And then I remember one day, I met this girl who was reading a novel I had never seen or heard of. Definitely did not recognize that kind of cover. I eventually asked her what she was reading, and she told me what the book was about. When my eyes went wide with excitement, she laughed, and let me borrow the book. From that point forward, I was hooked, and I’ve never looked back.
The Sun Witch by Linda Winstead Jones
There’s something so magical about romance to me. Watching two characters fall in love is beautiful. Believing, seeing, feeling, and experiencing love is absolutely amazing, and it doesn’t always have to be romantic. Sometimes it’s the love of a friend or family member. Sometimes it’s the love you find for yourself.
This book cemented in me that I wanted to weave that type of magic. I wanted to write books that crafted words into feelings. Books that made paranormal creatures real and accepted.
This series of books gave me the inspiration I needed to begin my first stories.
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon
And then I read this book, which has ruined me for the rest of time.
This book with it’s deities and mythology, two things that I love more than paranormal romance novels and even red velvet cupcakes. This book with it’s sarcasm, friendships, years of back story and development.
This series connected with me in such a strong way. It reminded me of all of the important things in life. That a romance novel doesn’t just have to be about romance and the wham bam thank you ma’am/sir.
It’s about getting to know the characters that you want to fall in love with, just as much as the ones you love to hate.
So I hope that every time you open a new book, or even read one of my own, you’re able to feel those same things. Because books should be a way to enjoy, fall in love, and find magic, if only for a little while.
